Our program is 1600 hours, which should take you about 13 months to complete. We break it up into four modules, the first one being 12 weeks, which allows you plenty of practice and confidence building time with doll heads before transitioning to our salon floor to work on guests.
The anticipation of starting can sometimes seem overwhelming. We get it. But we’ve broken up the program to minimize that feeling of being overwhelmed or anxious. Day 1 includes opening your student kit, which is so much fun! You’ll walk away that first week with so many new friends who will be on this journey with you.
Although the emphasis is on hair, you’ll also learn basic nail and facial services. Our NEWEST addition includes lash training, which you can read about a little further down. Here’s a summation of what the cosmetology program includes:
- Cutting (women and men’s cuts)
- Styling (thermal, braiding, special occasions)
- Coloring (foiling, balayage, bleach/tone, permanent)
- Hair Extensions
- Eyelash Extensions
- Chemical Relaxing
- Permanent Waving
- Product Knowledge and Retailing
- Customer Service and Business
- Nails (manicures and pedicures)
- Esthetics (hair removal, basic facials)
Currently, students start with distance education Monday – Friday from 9 am to 4 pm before transitioning to on campus training Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 am to 7 pm. Once social distancing restrictions for higher education institutions are lifted, all training will be done on campus.
THE SALON FLOOR
Annually, our cosmetology students see nearly 40,000 clients between our two campuses in North and South Seattle. This is an incredible amount of training with real salon-like experiences, allowing you to seamlessly transition into life after beauty school.
After module one, you’ll be able to take guests on our salon floor and start practicing your craft! Don’t worry, our educators will be there with you every step of the way. You’ll also continue learning new things and hearing from guest speakers.
Eyelash Extension Training is included in our Cosmetology program so all students can receive this valuable certificate-based training without additional tuition or kit costs. While some Seattle-based schools offer eyelash extension courses separately or within an Esthetics program, Gene Juarez Academy is one of the only Seattle schools to add it to a standard 1600-hour Cosmetology program. Students will be working with locally-owned products and training from London Brows & Lashes, which is the same premier product line used at Gene Juarez Salons and Spas.
Exposing cosmetology students to a variety of top salon professional quality haircare brands is essential to developing a well-rounded hairstylist. Our partnership with brands such as Goldwell® allows our students to train with the hair color brand of choice from the world’s top hairstylists. Students of our cosmetology program also work with brands such as Bumble and bumble®, Color Wow®, Eufora®, Ouidad®, evo®, R+Co® and many others so they know how to identify the best products for their clients to use at home.
Gene Juarez Academy is the education division of Gene Juarez Salons & Spas, who operate 9 highly successful salon & spa locations in the Pacific Northwest. We know there are three important components every cosmetologist must incorporate to be successful: having repeat clientele, building referrals, and selling retail products. Our renowned curriculum trains every student how to effectively apply these practices in real-world experiences on the clinic salon floor. In addition, we utilize proprietary programs to show our students the earning potential of following these best practices.
JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE
We will help you build your resume, polish your interviewing skills, and learn how to market yourself. In addition, we provide our cosmetology students with opportunities to network with regional salon employers through on-campus presentations and bi-annual career fairs.
Our externship program is a unique opportunity that allows you to work in a professional salon to earn hours toward your license. Working in a salon before graduation may offer you the opportunity to be hired immediately after getting a cosmetology license.
Graduates of our cosmetology program can be found working at top salons in the Pacific Northwest, nationally from Los Angeles to New York and internationally from Paris to Tokyo. Some have become celebrity stylists, editorial stylists, salon owners, product line educators, industry consultants and more.
