Our program is 1600 hours, which should take about 13 months to complete. We break it up into four modules, the first one being 18 weeks, which allows plenty of practice time on mannequin heads to build confidence before transitioning to our clinic salon floor to work on guests.
Although the emphasis is on hair, you will also learn basic nail and facial services. We also include lash extension certification training so that you can increase your earning potential once you become licensed. Our curly hair curriculum was recently expanded to better equip you with the skills to work with all hair types.

We offer a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday training schedule from 8 am to 7 pm that provides students the flexibility to work and be available for family four days a week. Currently, students start with distance education before transitioning to on campus training. Once social distancing restrictions for higher education institutions are lifted, all training will be done on campus.
Annually, our cosmetology students see nearly 40,000 clients between our two campuses in North and South Seattle. This is an incredible amount of training with real salon-like experiences, allowing you to seamlessly transition into salon life after beauty school.
After module one, you will be able to take guests on our clinic salon floor and start practicing your craft! Our educators will be there with you every step of the way. You’ll also continue learning new things and hearing from guest speakers to help you build a request clientele and referrals through five-star online reviews.
Eyelash Extension Training is included in our Cosmetology program so all students can receive this valuable certificate-based training without additional tuition or kit costs. While some Seattle-based schools offer eyelash extension courses separately or within an Esthetics program, Gene Juarez Academy is one of the few Seattle schools to add it to a standard 1600-hour Cosmetology program. You will train with locally owned products from London Brows & Lashes, which is the same premier product line used at Gene Juarez Salons and Spas.
Students receive a curated assortment of professional quality tools in their training kit that provides all the necessary items to cut, color and style hair, practice techniques for various hair types and services on mannequins, apply lash extensions, and perform manicure and pedicures. iPads are also included! Our kit sets you up for success while in school and beyond.
Exposing cosmetology students to a variety of top salon professional quality haircare brands is essential to developing a well-rounded hairstylist. Our partnership with brands such as Goldwell® allows you to train with the hair color brand of choice from the world’s top hairstylists. You will also work with brands such as Bumble and bumble®, Color Wow®, Eufora®, Ouidad®, evo®, R+Co® and many others so you know how to identify the best products for your clients to use at home.
Gene Juarez Academy is the education division of Gene Juarez Salons and Spas, who operate 10 highly successful salon and spa locations in the Pacific Northwest. We know there are three important components every cosmetologist must incorporate to be successful: having repeat clientele, building referrals, and selling retail products. Our renowned curriculum trains you how to effectively apply these practices in real-world experiences on the clinic salon floor. In addition, we utilize proprietary programs to show you the earning potential of following these best practices.
We will help you build your resume, polish your interviewing skills, and learn how to market yourself. In addition, we provide our cosmetology students with opportunities to network with regional salon employers through on-campus presentations and semi-annual career fairs.
Our externship program is a unique opportunity that allows you to work in a professional salon to earn hours toward your license. Working in a salon before graduation may offer you the opportunity to be hired immediately after getting a cosmetology license.
Graduates of our cosmetology program can be found working at top salons in the Pacific Northwest, nationally from Los Angeles to New York and internationally from Paris to Tokyo. Some have become celebrity stylists, editorial stylists, salon owners, product line educators, industry consultants and more.
Students attending Gene Juarez Academy are not required to work for or are guaranteed a position with Gene Juarez Salons & Spas, Gene Juarez Academy, or the Gene Juarez Home Office when they graduate.
Gene Juarez Academy offers financial aid and scholarships for those who qualify, great schedules, and two convenient locations just North and South of Seattle.
