GJA students recently partnered with Seattle’s Roosevelt High School as the official hair and wig stylists of their production of Kiss Me Kate!

The production, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, is a musical version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew that tells the story of the on and off stage conflict between the show’s producer/director/star and his leading lady, who happens to be his ex-wife.

Gene Juarez Academy students worked for weeks prior to the premier to prepare the multiple wigs needed for the show.

The production involved creating multiple hairstyles with costume changes for over 30 cast members. Gene Juarez Academy students and staff were on site for the six days of production to a nearly full-house of attendees each night.

Roosevelt High School has the only full-time drama program in the Seattle School District. They offer eight periods of drama per day with topics ranging from acting, directing, and production. They also offer a full musical theater program with four private voice teachers, a vocal director and choreographer.
