What year did you graduate and from what campus?

I graduated from the South Campus in 2012

Why did you choose a career in cosmetology and why GJA?

I chose this career because I wanted to add more life skills to my life and help other people build their confidence & self esteem.  I went to GJA because they have an extremely credible name & an amazing reputation.

What are you currently doing and what other industry related experience do you have other than your current position?

I am currently the Clinic Lead Educator at GJA South Campus where I manage activities on our clinic salon floor in addition to teaching students.  Before this, I worked as a children’s gymnastics teacher.

How did your training with GJA prepare you for the industry and the work you are currently doing?

Working with students & guests are my main focuses in my job so attending GJA helped prepare me by giving me real salon like experience in a fast paced environment.

What do you enjoy the most about your current position? What is your typical day like?

I love everything about my job.  I enjoy building relationships with my students.  My typical day involves classroom time with my students and managing services on the clinic floor with students and their guests.

What is your fondest memory of GJA?

All of my best memories involve interactions with students & helping them understand all the information that is taught to them.

What advice do you have for current students starting out in the program, and those getting ready to graduate?

Current students should always remind themselves why they began school in the first place to keep them motivated through graduation.  They also need to consistently pay attention to current & upcoming beauty & fashion trends.

It is very important for students getting ready to graduate to study for their state board exam so they are confident & prepared.  I also tell them to keep up the relationships they built with fellow students & educators after they graduate.

What advice do you have for people that are interested in going to cosmetology school?

Research the industry & what it all involves.  There are so many opportunities that are available with a Cosmetology license.

A nationally accredited cosmetology school in North Seattle and South Seattle.
