I graduated from South Campus in 2012
Why did you choose a career in cosmetology and why GJA?
Growing up, my dream was to be a Disney princess at Disneyland. I wanted to wake up everyday & get dressed up, wear makeup and have amazing hair. In this industry, you get to dress up & feel beautiful everyday. Not only that, but you get to make others feel the same way! I chose GJA because of the reputation of the name.
What are you currently doing and what other industry related experience do you have other than your current position?
I am the Technique Lead Educator at South Campus. Not only do I get teach students, I also serve as a resource for my fellow educators when questions come up about technique and also assist in writing curriculum.
How did your training with GJA prepare you for the industry and the work you are currently doing?
GJA prepared me for my career with the amazing curriculum as well as the supportive staff.
What do you enjoy the most about your current position? What is your typical day like?
I enjoy being a motivation to students giving them the encouragement and direction they need in order to be successful. My typical day would be giving my students new information and showing them how to put that knowledge to use.
What is your fondest memory of GJA?
My educators. As a student, I really looked up to them. The motivation & encouragement they gave to me has made me who I am today.
What advice do you have for current students starting out in the program, and those getting ready to graduate?
Current students should always remember their goal & the feeling of excitement they had on their first day of school. And for students who are preparing to graduate, I tell them to explore all the options this amazing career has to offer them.
What advice do you have for people that are interested in going to cosmetology school?
This career will open more doors than you would think. Career paths can be Hairstylist, Salon Manager, Fashion Show Stylist, Photography or Movie Stylist, Writer/Editor for beauty magazines, Cosmetology Instructor, Product Representative or maybe one day, prepping those Disney princesses!
